About
Welcome to Becca Hulme Designs!
Lots of people like to tell you the story of how they learned to knit… well… I have no idea when I learned. I just know I’ve been able to knit for pretty much as long as I can remember, but I really started to take time to knit regularly in the last 10 years. I’ve used it as a method of self care and relaxation, and I’m rarely without my knitting wherever I go.
I enjoy designing about as much as I enjoy knitting. My first design was my Building Blocks Blanket. It wasn’t the first to be published (that took about 2 years after the original full size blanket was made), but it was the first time that I truly couldn’t find a ready made pattern for what was in my head and so set out creating one and making notes as I went. If you’re interested in finding out more about the thought process and detail behind the pattern for that blanket, you’ll be able to read about on my blog soon.
Along with designing and knitting, I thoroughly enjoy working with other designers. I have learnt so much from test knitting, proof reading, tech editing and even ghost writing for them which I believe helps me to become a better writer too. –> This is me, by the way. And if you’re wondering, the scarf is one of my favourites, Paso Nogal (designer Meghan Macko) – great pattern!
PROOF READING
Pattern ready to publish?
Want a final check before you do?
I will read your pattern, checking for spelling mistakes, inconsistencies and that it has all the necessary elements for a pattern.
TECH EDITING
A step or two further than proof reading.
I will go through your pattern line by line checking for errors and clarity. I check the spelling, the maths, the fine detail, and that it all lines up with your style sheet.
GHOST WRITING
Great ideas?
But don’t have enough time to write them all up as patterns?
I write up your notes for a pattern in your style, saving time and getting you a big step closer to publishing day.
COMMISSIONS
Need a sample of your own design knitting?
Want one of my designs but don’t have the time to knit it?
I take on commission pieces of any designs. Contact me to see how I can help.
COACHING
Do you create your own patterns and want to take the first steps as a designer?
I offer one-to-one coaching aimed at helping you get to grips with anything you might want to know about publishing your own patterns.
For a quote for my services, please contact me with as many details about your project as possible. For smaller projects I am usually able to offer a fixed price rate, for larger or more intricate projects, I work on an hourly rate. All rates are discussed and agreed up-front, with full communication throughout the process.
If you are an indie dyer or fellow designer who would like to collaborate with me on a project, please contact me using the form on my contact page.
