Pattern Information
My W-A-L-K Hat has been a popular knit for the last few years as it is so versatile and you can really make it look incredibly different just by changing the yarn you use. Well, I took the pattern and gave it a bit of a twist. This hat has the simplicity of W.A.L.K. with a beautiful crown inspired by Danny’s Hat. Both are pretty patterns in their own rights but to me they were just calling out to be combined.
This pattern is written in one size for adults and is worked in the round. The ribbing design allows it to fit most head sizes as it has a lot of give. It could easily be adjusted at the cast on stage to fit a smaller or larger head – notes for this are in the pattern.
The hat has options to make a double thickness brim which gives a lovely edge and makes it very comfy to wear. However, if you prefer a folded brim onto the outside of the hat, there are instructions for that too! In my mustard sample, I omitted the brim altogether, again, there’s instructions for that in the pattern.
Materials & Gauge
Yarn: This pattern is perfect for using up stash/leftovers. Go wild with your stripes design. You can either work with an Aran yarn held single (approx. 150 – 180m) or a DK weight yarn held double throughout the pattern (approx. 300 – 375m).
Why not pick some DK weight leftovers and combine them to make bold stripes, or hold 2 different colour strands together and create a marled effect? Your only restriction is your imagination!
Gauge: 24sts x 27 rows = 10cm / 4in in 1×1 rib
Needles: Circular needles or dpns sized to obtain gauge. My samples used 6mm / US10 circular needles but please note that I am known to be a tight knitter and you may need to change your needles to achieve gauge. The design is so stretchy that there is a lot of room for manoeuvre within the given gauge.
Finished measurements: 40cm. To fit a head circumference of 45-56cm / 17¾-22in.
All of my patterns are thoroughly tested before release – A huge thank you to my test knitters who help to make my ideas a reality!
